RouteWarn®:  Custom Storm Warnings for the Transportation Industry

The Weather Warning Problem - Over used and over sized  NWS Warnings:

Severe weather warnings issued by the National Weather Service (NWS) typically cover hundreds (or even thousands) of square miles.  While this may be fine for the public at large, this type of situation creates an unacceptably high "false alarm rate" for most other users - especially those in the commercial world where unnecessary work stoppages are very costly.

For example, in 2011 the NWS issued Tornado Warnings for a geographic area equivalent to 2,000,000 square miles (as shown in red on the image above).  The actual area  affected by a tornado was only 5,000 square miles (as illustrated by the pink circle)!  What a staggering false alarm rate - and certainly not a statistic that you should be expected to deal with in your organization...

The Weather Warning Solution - RouteWarn® from WeatherGuidance:

By subscribing to site specific, customized storm warnings via our WeatherGuidance RouteWarn® service, we'll help you eliminate false alarms, which will allow you to focus on business reality when it comes to severe weather.

Just consider:  you'll only be warned of the type(s) of weather that you specify, and only when it threatens your specific routes and/or location(s):

-No more false alarms
-No more costly, unnecessary shutdowns, stoppages or re-routes
-No more wasted time or lost revenue due to "hazardous weather" that never materializes

How RouteWarn® Works:

Unlike some commercial weather services, we do not merely "repackage" National Weather Service warnings.  Our staff of professional meteorologists will monitor your specific routes and/or location(s) and issue weather warnings "from scratch" - completely customized to fit your specific operational needs and safety concerns.

Here are some examples of the types of weather hazards that our clients ask us to warn them about:
-Tornadoes
-Sustained winds and/or gusts of specific speed(s)
-Cloud to ground lightning strikes*
-Rain, snow and ice accumulation of a specific amount
-Flood, flash flood and low water crossing alerts
-Visibility reduced to a specific distance
-Earthquake location and magnitude within a specific radius

*Did you know that the National Weather Service (NWS) does not issue  any type of warning product pertaining specifically to lightning strikes?  This is a service that you'll find only in the private sector, and ours is second to none.  We offer complete solutions, from self-monitored lightning data displays to customized alerts and warnings issued by our professional staff of meteorologists.  Both of these options are included as a part of our RouteWarn program.

Above is only a sample of the many types of hazards that we will monitor and warn you of for your specific location(s).  Once we've identified your primary weather risks and/or concerns, we'll set up a specific weather warning program to fit your needs.  We'll deliver the information to you 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year - exactly when (and how) you need it!

What Does a RouteWarn® Alert/Warning Look Like?

A great deal of that depends on the various levels of customization that you choose when setting up your service, but here is a sample to give you the general idea...

Because we are only monitoring for weather conditions that will impact your specific route(s) and/or location(s) according to your specification(s), our warning information is highly specific, accurate and actionable:

Sometimes It's Best to Do Nothing At All:

While our primary mission is to provide advance notice of impending severe weather threats to our clients for their specific routes and/or locations, more often than not, we find ourselves telling them what not to worry about!

When the National Weather Service (NWS) issues a severe weather warning that includes a client route  and/or location and we have determined that there is no actual threat to the client, we will issue a "Null Warning" notification, advising our client that no action should be taken in that particular case:

Our clients tell us that by eliminating unnecessary stoppages, re-routing and evacuations, we have saved them millions of dollars in productivity and profits each year.  Furthermore, they tell us that they are now more likely to take appropriate action when severe weather actually does threaten because we have eliminated the "crying wolf" syndrome, which helps them to keep their employees safe!

We are confident that we can help you to achieve the same results, no matter how large or small the scale of your operations.  Best of all, you'll be surprised at just how affordable a solution like RouteWarn® can be for your business!
